What do you do in your darkest hour? I know in the last month we have been discussing our "Worst Week". There is no doubt most of us have had some really bad weeks, months, even years. It’s the time when it’s so Dark that you wonder if you will ever see the sun again. It might be bright and blue skies outside, but inside our minds and hearts it’s just plain Dark. With a capital "D".
I don’t mean to start us out today on such a dark side, but the fact of the matter is that in these days we are leading to the greatest "Light " ever to show forth. The SON Who lights our darkness and gives hope to our future, Who had the darkest of dark weeks. None of us have ever experienced anything like it. It was actually what allowed Him to give us Light when our "Worst Week" comes. It’s dark right now. It’s going to be dark for a few more days.
What did Jesus do in His darkest days beginning with tomorrow, the day we now know as Maundy Thursday? He prayed! The disciples missed His darkness. They were of no help. But HE PRAYED. He didn't only pray a quickie prayer, but he prayed and prayed some more…and then prayed some more. Why? He knew what He faced. I challenge you to read this passage in the Garden where we feel the grief and hopelessness of the coming events. But He Prayed. He took of the Bitter Cup assigned Him.
In His final moments Jesus once again Prayed. This was no normal prayer, it wasn't even one that we can fully comprehend. But it is a prayer that, while it was dark and brought on Darkness throughout the world for a season, it was the Prayer that ushers in our HOPE! The hope of Eternity, the hope of Knowing God, of having the bridge of sin and separation between us and a Holy God repaired. Read this dark moment, but instead of being down, sad, read it with Hope. That was the entire reason of His Crucifixion. Without the death there would be no Resurrection, no Easter. Rejoice!
Matthew 27:45-46 - From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?”(which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
I’ll see you this week as we celebrate the Hope we have in Him.
