So, do you have a "BHAG"? Just in case you're asking, "Guy, I know you're crazy, but come on...what are you saying now?", well I am not saying anything new that hasn't been said and written and published even in millions of books. In his book, Built to Last, famous author, Jim Collins coined a phrase that has been used by millions since the book was written. He asked the question, "Do you have Big Hairy Audacious Goals?" Thus the word, "BHAG" was born.
Now, I know this is a prayer letter I send you as a Prayer Partner, but if anyone should have Big Hairy Audacious Goals, it should be those who are praying. I mean, even scripture encourages it. Jesus Himself said we should have enough faith that when we pray a mountain is moved. But, in our message this week, out of James 1 we are encouraged to pray "BHAG". Check out this powerful word from James Chapter 1:5-8 - "If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You'll get his help, and won't be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who "worry their prayers" are like wind-whipped waves. Don't think you're going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open". (The Message)
So, whether we are running a 5K for the first time, needing a miracle in our housing situation, illness, a child having issues or a marital problem, God has spoken. He wants us to ask, even when it seems like a Big Audacious Ask!!! Let's "Just Live It".
In recent weeks, I believe God has challenged me through a number of ways -- through friends, circumstances, books I have read and His Holy Spirit. I feel He is leading me to some Big Hairy Audacious Goals for my own life and for the life of Oasis Church. I'm in the midst of doing just what James has said. Pray! Pray! Pray! Then believe Him for it. I am not talking here about "name it, claim it prosperity gospel" praying. The scripture doesn't teach that. That is nothing more than man trying to please himself and get what he wants from a Genie-type God. That is NOT what I am encouraging.
I hope you are chasing some BHAGs in your life, and if you are, you better listen to James.
