Is This Even Possible??????????

I just sent a simple 9 line email to two staff members. I know most that read my blogs, would say, No its not Possible for you to send a 9 line email!!! But that isn't what this post is about.

In the email I sent, before it went the Spell check came up with my misspelled words, or I should say Mistyped!!!! Is that a Word? oh, no spell check will scratch that one.

Anyway, the Spell check showed 30 mistyped words!!! yes, 30 in a 9 line email!! Not because I cant spell but I am a stinky typist.!!! Can you imagine if I had no spell check what my blogs and emails would look like??

Is this Even Possible??????? 30 in 9 lines!!! Yep, I can verify it!!!!!!

HMMMM!!! THIS POST IS 9 LINES!!!!!!!!!!!  If I bought lotto tics it would be 9999!!

Pastor's Email

Dear Extended Oasis Family;

Happy Father’s Day out there to all the guys who are Dads!!! We salute you, and thank God for those Dads seeking to lead their families in a Godly Way. Father’s Day Weekend is the perfect time to kick off a new Series "The Satisfying life".Our Guest Speaker this weekend, the following weekend and in our 7NOW Services is Rev. Bud McCord our Missionary from Brazil. He has a newly released book on this subject and we are the first ones to have an opportunity to get it. Much more about Bud and the new Series on our Website!!

I love having a great church website and also a personal blog.  I could never get all the great things out about what's going on at Oasis without our website. And I would never be able to share from the pulpit with such limited time all that is going on in my life and in my MIND!!!! Hence, What Were You Thinking? Whether you want to know all I am thinking or not, it’s on my blog!!!! Some I could never mention from the pulpit, or should I say, would choose not to.

Here are just some of What I Have Been Thinking this week:

So I invite you to go to www.guymelton.com and find out what I am thinking. You might like it, you might not…but it is what I am Thinking!!

Oasis Church has some pretty phenomenal things happening you don’t want to miss, so check them out:

And so much more.....................................

I am so excited about this weekend as we kick off The Satisfying Lifewith Rev. Bud McCord!! Come prepared to be blessed and challenged and get your Study Workbook at Kona while you’re here. For 7NOW services you will have the books available also. This week in preparation, I have been reading the key text for our Series every day. Let me encourage you to Read John 15 before coming this week to service.

God bless you and have a great weekend, and once again to the Dads, Happy Father’s Day!!! I love you guys. It is a blast to do life with you at Oasis Church.

Busted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesdays at noon is our Regular Ministry Leaders Luncheon. This is approximately 13 men and women who oversee or lead the ministries of our church. We eat lunch together, laugh together, cry together, plan and update each other on our ministries. Most Tuesdays as we eat we only talk personal things. Catch up on families, hobbies and whatever comes up. It's a great place to bond and let our hair down. For some reason, almost every Tuesday somehow the conversation comes around to me. But usually they are laughing at me and not with me. How could I provide this mainly young generation of leaders so much to laugh at? How do they  find so many crazy things I do? But they do. From my grammar, to my spelling, my hobbies, blog, family, hair, clothes, shoes...you name it, they Bust me on it!!!!

Well, a blog post by our Admin Pastor Kevin McCord really unleashed it this week. He had done a post that morning on "How Real Is Your Pastor?" . He pretty much exposed every area of my life, but used my blog posts over the last year to do it. He Busted me pretty good as only Kevin can do.   He said it was a compliment. I'll let you decide when you read them. I'll believe him, since I want to!!!!!  Well, this really set the team off. But one thing I am happy about, is that at least they are not afraid to laugh at the boss. Most of you laugh at your boss behind his/her back...they just do it to my face is all. Generally it's good natured and I love being around this mainly young staff. Some of them are younger than my boys. What a great group though. I Love them all and count it a privilege to serve with them. (BTW, my wife is usually the major instigator of the "pick on the ole guy" and then just sits there and watches!!!!!!!!!!)

Oh, well I usually tell them, I am glad I have given them something to laugh about !!!! Even if it's at me and not with me!!!!!!!!!! .

This week's letter to our Church Family

Our Oasis Family recieves this every Thursday or Friday. For those outside our Church Family, I am sharing it with you in case you might wonder what's happening at Oasis with a few behind-the-scenes of my blog thoughts.  Sorry, my format cuts some off, and the links don't work on it, when put on my blog post. But you get the idea.

Pastor's Email

Dear Guy,  (now that is akward getting my own Email)

I have to admit, I am writing this letter to you today pretty frustrated and upset. Most of the time you get me on the upswing and very upbeat, and to some…overly optimistic. Not today!! I’m pretty upset!! If I had to put the little face on this newsletter like some use in their emails, it would be, “SHUT UP”, and “I HATE COMPUTERS”!!!  Now neither of those two phrases are actually linked. I’ll share more about them later.

On another note, though, I have a BIG SECRET I have been holding for a few weeks, and Tonia and I have not been able to share it. But on Saturday night I will be able to share it on my Blog at www.guymelton.com.  So, if you think about it, come and check it out!!! Don’t ask before then. I can’t say a word. Sorry. And don’t pester Tonia…she can’t either!!!!

Now, to the “Shut Up” and “I hate Computers” remarks. I am really frustrated. First off, the last two days it seems like every time I either try to study or work on my blog, the computer messes up. I hate them anyway, but being so ignorant about them, when they mess up I can make a simple ten second problem become a two hour process with lots of stress. The bad thing is I have lost so much time the last two days because of computers. Aren't they supposed to make our life simpler, faster, easier??!!!  Yeah, right!!! Have I told you I HATE COMPUTERS?!!!!  Anyway, God must have a sense of humor because this week’s message on Going Green is "Conserving our Time".  I wrote it several weeks ago. God must be laughing at me, since this week I’ve done anything but conserve time. But by Saturday night when I bring the first message, hopefully I’ll have gotten my life under control so I can challenge you. I think it’s going to be a good message for all of us. I’m excited about bringing it, along with our Teaching Team.

Now for the “Shut Up”!!! I’m sorry, Parents!  I hope your kids aren’t reading this. I know Shut Up was a bad word in our house. But, honestly, lately it is the only thing legally a Pastor could say about a subject I’m sick of hearing and reading about. If you want to know more about it, I actually did 3-part post on my blog  about it, so you’re welcome to read them. Please comment even if you don’t agree with me.

So many things to say, so little time to say them, especially now that I’ve wasted so much time wrestling with a Devil-Possessed Computer! Have I told you I HATE COMPUTERS??? But let me encourage you to come this week to one of the services, its going to be a great week. Lot’s happening. Make sure you go to visitoasis.org to find out about it!!!! We are a part of an exciting church. I love it!!!

A few things to wrap up with which you can read more about on my blog.........

See you soon. I love you guys!!!!

Oasis Stories

I love sharing stories that folks send our way. Sometimes they are in person. Some times via email. The stories below came in on our website/info link where folks can share their story. Do you have a Story God has written in your life. We would love to hear it. To add yours go to www.visitoasis.org and click on "Add Story" on the right side  bar .

Hi Pastor Guy,
I wanted to share with you about the difference in my life that regular tithing has made.
You asked all the members and regular attenders to commit to tithing 10%.
Although it stretched my budget I knew that it was what God wanted me to do.  You said many times that God would take my 90% and make it go farther than my 100% and you were right.
I just got a new job in January after leaving my old job of 26 years.  I took a pay cut and my husband hasn't had regular work since January and yet we still can pay
our bills.  And the funny thing is I don't worry about money at all because I know that my God shall supply all my needs.
Money is always a touchy subject with anyone
but I realize now that being faithful in tithing shows God that I depend on him
and not my weekly paycheck.
Thank you for letting me share my story.
God Bless you!!!
Mrs Deborah S.

Guy; we have not met although I've seen you for the past few months when we go to Oasis.  I wanted to thank you for founding this church because it has helped me get closer to God and to recognize that I am not in control but I am just a mere instrument to carry Gods will.  I've been in the Real Estate business for a while and must recognize that while the market was going well and deals were just too many to handle;  I never set time aside for God or if I did it was not as much as he required of me.  Now that the market has crashed I see things in a whole new way and a lot of people in the same business field are beginning to realize  that it is God who brings the wealth and prosperity.

I wanted to sincerely thank you for your efforts to convert not so good believers like I was into people who grow to love God and to accept that he is our supreme father.
God bless you, your family, and church.

Sincerely;

Ivan C.

Pastor's Email

Dear Guy,

What a messed up world we are living in!!!!! Sorry to start off with such uplifting words, but it does seem to be such a messy place right now. Suicide Bombers, terrorist attacks daily, the Hurricane (cyclone) in Myanmar/Burma and now Earth Quakes in China killing thousands. What a sad week and I haven't even mentioned what's going on in our country. But if you want to have some Good News, Hurricane Season in South Florida doesn't begin for two more weeks!!!!!! Enjoy Paradise!!!!!

It is for all the reasons above our Church is named Oasis Church. We really do want to be a "Refreshing Place" in a desert of troubles and problems. We all have troubles, we are going through Cyclones of our own. No doubt, that's the human condition. But I want our church to be that one place people can come in from the storm and experience some peace, albeit it for just an hour or two. That is why we offer 13 services, 3 campuses, that include 7 Nights of Worship each and every week. People literally come to church every night, just looking for some peace from the Tsunami they are experiencing. I meet them almost every night I attend. Sometimes I attend a night just because I have had a bad day and just want to worship with some other believers and hear from God. Have you ever come on a night just for that? That is why we offer our Kona Cafe. Soon we will have free WiFi in Kona. We want folks to come and be able to just hang out. Maybe with someone, or maybe just by yourself, with a book, a computer, iPod, or just to sit and have some coffee or a snack.

I want our Church to be that "Third Place" you hear so many talk about. For many it's Starbucks. That's fine, but what's better than to have a Third place that has spiritual food, a hug, and some love???? At this point only our Pines campus has the 7 nights and Kona, but my vision is for all campuses to have an "Oasis"; a third place feel every night/day of the week. I can't wait until our Hollywood campus can open an Oasis in the middle of downtown Hollywood; my hope is on the Boulevard itself. My prayer is that Oasis church can be that "Spring of Living Water" that the bible speaks about. Water to the thirsty traveler, the weary Mom and the still water to those who need it. Have you invited anyone lately to the "Oasis"? Why not this weekend or next week on one of the Nights of Worship?

A few things to remember this week. We are looking for some folks who are willing to step up and help our church continue to be an Oasis to those who come by leading or hosting a Community group. Pastor Pat Roberts is hosting an Orientation Meeting next week for those who are willing to just listen and consider.

Our Women's Ministry is hosting a Mentoring Coffee this Sunday for those ladies who are interested in taking your Spiritual Life to the next level. This mentoring ministry is new but has had great first session results. If you are interested in attending the Orientation for this check out the article on our website.

The Classics Continue this Weekend and 7NOW. We conclude this series with the Classic "Terminator" story!!! Samson, the Samsonator!! If you want to prepare yourself for the message, I suggest you click on BIBLE GATEWAY and read some of the passages we will be looking at in Judges 14-16.

Next Week Begins our GOING GREEN SERIES, which leads me to some things I really want you to check out on my blog, this week.

After writing this I'm tired and also excited...can you be both at one time? I love serving Jesus. It is an exciting adventure. Every day is a new day, full of opportunities to make a difference!!!! Are you making a difference today, or just existing?! Lets go out and make a difference. I love you guys. I love serving with you.

God bless and I cannot wait to see you this weekend or next week at 7NOW.

This Week's Newsletter/Email/Bare/Women/Hunk

Each week we send out about 2,000 Email Newsletters to our Church Family who are active. There are some who read the blog each week, but are from out of town. So when I think about it, I'll paste the Email update on my blog. Much of the stuff is on my blog, but sometimes there are things that are not. So here it is.

Pastor's Email

Dear Guy,

Who is that Hunk? Well, you have to wait and see, but I will tell you it has a lot to do with the Women in my life!!!!!!!!

This weekend we will be celebrating Mother’s Day in all our services and at all campuses. Now, for those of you who attend one of the 7NOW (7 Nights of Worship) Services, you will also get the same message that honors our Moms this week. You won’t be left out! There is not a more genuine holiday on the calendar than Mother’s Day. The greeting card companies have so cheapened holidays for their greed that there is a holiday for everything…probably even one for Dead-Beat Dads!!!! But there is none more important than Mother’s Day. What would we be without our Moms??!!! I know I have 4 wonderful ladies in my life who I am very proud of. I shared some of my thoughts about them on my blog yesterday.

This week as we continue our Classics Series, we will be looking at one of the Classic Mothers of all time. I encourage you to go read our main passage  --  Exodus 1:22-2:10.   Out of this passage we will look at four areas that are very indicative of our own moms. We honor them this week. As I think about sharing the scripture with you, I am also reminded how much we have offered to us in this day and time. You can, with one click, go to the Bible and read a passage along with commentary and all kinds of helps. As I mentioned in my blog several weeks ago discussing, Why I Don't Need Oasis Church, the Shepherd does not drive the sheep to water, or to eat…he leads them. As Shepherd, a large part of my ministry as the under shepherd to Christ, is not to drive you to eat and drink the word of God and His goodness…but to lead you to where the green grass is. It is up to the sheep then to eat, and drink at the cool, refreshing, renewing "Oasis" of His love.  So I invite you…come drink, come eat!!! God is good, His Word endures forever!!!

I began thinking about my email newsletter a couple days ago. I was wondering if there was that much happening to really say much this week. As normal, there is so much going on, I can’t begin to go into it. Let me just send you off to Blog land, and our visitoasis.org website to get the 411 on it. Some of the VERY IMPORTANT things I want to alert you to are:

  1. Community Group Leader Orientation - Please consider this if you are looking for your next step in your walk with Christ as a disciple. Openings for new host homes are also available for those who might like to host a community group in the coming year.
  2. Mentoring Coffee - Our Women's Ministry started this new discipleship/mentoring ministry this year. There have already been over 30 ladies in mentoring relationships. This is your chance!!! Another way to take the next step in your Growth as a Christ Follower. There have been some amazing testimonies from the first session!!!!!
  3. Drama Camps for Kids - is being hosted on 3 different weeks this summer. Our Worship Arts Ministry and Revolution School of the Arts will be sponsoring this for our elementary kids. We will not have a sleep-over, out of town elementary camp this year. The out of town camp is very expensive, and hard on many to send their young kids to. It was decided that instead of only offering something that attracts a few children, we would offer a ministry camp, at home, that would include many of our children. I encourage you to sign up your child for one or all three.

So much more, but I’ll save it for next week. Now, for a few items I would love to share with you on my blog - guymelton.com:

Have a great weekend, and I am looking forward to honoring all our moms this weekend!!!!! Hats off to you, MOM!!!!!!
