What an awesome day!!! If you read the first post this morning, it looked like the Blizzard was hitting and it would be 24 hours of snow and wind. It let up and we got to go to the nearest city, Telluride. Always heard of it because of its skiing, but the town is pretty cool. Old mining town that the incredible skiing brought back to life. (I took this pic to the left with my IPHONE!!!! Love it!!)
It's picture postcard type stuff. 10,000 feet up in the Rockies, near the four corners region of Colorado. That is the southwest side. Turns out Denver to the north got hit hard, and no telling how much snow they got today and tonight. But it's big.
We leave tomorrow, Friday morning to head out to Breckenridge, Tonia's fav town in Colorado. It is where we took our son, Jim for his graduation present . Haven't been back since. We will stay there Friday and Sat. night, if the snow lets up and we can get over the different mountain passes. Most were closed today and they were expecting about another foot tonight.
So we will see!!! By the time you get this, we will, Lord willing, be on the road and finding out if we can get to Breckenridge by Friday night. If you read this Friday, please pray for safety and open roads.
This trip has brought back lots of fond memories. Yesterday, I skied Monarch, which is where I learned to ski 30 years ago while in college. All three of our boys when they were just 3 and 4 years old learned to ski there. I really missed having my boys on this trip and at Monarch. Maybe someday we will, all of us, be on the slopes of Monarch together. Monarch was where Tonia took a ski lesson one day, and decided never to ski again, and she hasn't!!! Much to my disappointment!!! But, hey, she loves to sit by the fireplace, watch the skiers, sip apple cider and at the right ski slope shop.
OK, I'm including some of our Pics from the trip. Home movies of a sort!!! All my Face Book friends have already had to endure most of this, but if you aren't on my FB, then here's a little of what we have posted this week.
We began the week at a place we took the boys to when we came out to ski in Denver...Casa Bonita. We were surprised to see it still there. It is one of the most amazing restaurants you'll ever see. Cave Divers, 20 foot dives, inside.
Gun fights, gorillas, and all kinds of shows. The kids love, and we enjoyed it and the memories of when the boys were small. All the Mexican you can eat!!! Tough night after flying all day!! LOL I think Tonia's fav at Casa was the cave diver!!!!!
God bless you, and if you're an Oasis Family member, I look forward to seeing you next week.
Promised to wear this helmet for Mom!! First time ever!! Ugh!! No, I didnt join the Special Forces!! Lots of comments about this and these other pics on our FB. Wish I could show them all to you. If you're not my FB friend, I would love to have you as my friend. Just go on and type in search for Guy Melton. Easy as this.
To the right, I'm posing with Tonia!!!
My lovely wife in Gondola over Telluride. I love these pics. They were actually taken with my IPHONE!! Most anyway!
Tonia finally said, no more pics of us. People will think we are vain!! So, no more for now!! I can't help it, it's so easy to just snap a pic with the IPHONE, and Tonia and I were like little kids in the Snow today. So, sorry if we over-exposed ourselves to you today!!!
